IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Miyoko
Burr
February 3, 1932 – March 7, 2026
Memorial Service
Miyoko (Ueda) Burr, 94, beloved wife of the late Rev. Donald (“Don”) F. Burr, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Tokyo, Japan on February 3, 1932 to Rt. Rev. Paul Kazuyoski Ueda and Hisa Ueda, Miyoko was one of six children. Earlier in life, Miyoko was part of the Girls Friendly Society, attended Hokkaido Teachers’ College, and became a teacher of English in Sapporo.
Miyoko met Don while attending the University of Michigan as the two worked on a New York rural farm as missionaries, caring for children of the migrant workers. They were married in July 1959 in Sapporo and moved to the U.S. later that year. Miyoko and Don lived in Norwalk, CT, where they raised their family.
Miyoko lived a rich and thoughtful life, marked by her strong Christian faith, quiet wisdom, grace, and humility. Her greatest joy was her family. Miyoko also enjoyed her hobbies, which included caring for her flowers, painting beautiful watercolors, sewing, and completing crosswords and sudoku puzzles.
Miyoko will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Mary Baldwin (David) of Quebec, Canada and Margaret Crescione (John) of Fairfield, CT; five grandchildren, Michael (Dawn), Mitchell, Emily (Fernando), John, and Nicholas; and five great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Millie, Jacob, James, and Felix; and in Japan by her sisters, Kaoru Takasugi and Yuriko Sugiyama (Eiichi). She was predeceased by her husband, Don, and her siblings, Yoshio, Sadao, and Kunio. She also leaves behind many extended family members in both the U.S. and Japan.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at St. Paul’s On The Green, 60 East Ave, Norwalk, CT 06851. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, https://alzfdn.org/.
